    Xi'an plans to phase out all high-emission vehicles in 2017

    Xi'an Municipal Government recently issued a notice about management of high-emission and old vehicles, according to which all the public high-emission vehicles registered before 2005 will be banned by 2015. In 2017, the city will basically ban all high-emission vehicles. All vehicles in Xi'an must apply for environmental labels before Dec. 31, 2014.

    Xi'an Municipal Government provides subsidy of $645 to $1,397 to private car owners who abandon the high-emission car before 2014; those who do so in 2015 will get 80 percent of the subsidy; no subsidy will be given to those who abandon the high-emission cars in or after 2016.
