Bin County is 150 kilometers northwest to the Chang’an city, on the trunk of the Shaanxi section of the Silk Road. The county, on the boundary of Shaanxi province and Gansu province, was the first stop of the east part of north truck of the Silk Road.

It was one of important hubs during the prime of the Silk Road. Today, Bin County still retains a significant Buddhist architecture - Dafo Temple grottos, the largest grotto groups in Shaanxi province.
