TAIYUAN, Aug. 19 -- An explosion in a residential building in north China's Shanxi Province on Sunday killed eight people and injured four others, local authorities said Monday night.

The explosion happened at an apartment in the Jingshan Garden Residential Compound of Changzhi City around 1:30 a.m., according to the municipal government's information office.

Investigations showed the tragedy was caused by natural gas leak. The injured are receiving treatment at local hospitals.
