BEIJING, June 26 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese state councilor met with a delegation from the American Foreign Policy Council led by Richard Myers, former chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff here on Thursday.

Yang Jiechi said he hoped the council could play a positive role in promoting a comprehensive and objective understanding of China and China-U.S. relations.

Myers echoed Yang saying the council is willing to be a channel for the two countries to strengthen communication and understanding.

The delegation was invited by the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
