Made-in China elements at Rio 2016 Olympic Games

Olympic organizers in Rio have been forced to contend with a long string of headaches in the build-up to the Games. While preparations may have been messy and complicated, one can only hope that the China-made products currently being used in Rio stand up to the test.

    1.Uniforms

Chinese sportswear company 361° will provide more than 106,500 uniforms for technical staff and volunteers at the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

    2. Subways

More than half the subway trains running in Rio de Janeiro's metro system will be Chinese products after the city deploys 15 new subway trains on its newly built Line 4, which started operating on Aug. 1. The new line, a key infrastructure project that connects the Olympic Village and the Copacabana area in central Rio, will be able to transport up to 300,000 passengers a day, and reduce road traffic by at least 2,000 vehicles during peak hours.

    3. Official badges and mascots

The Rio 2016 Olympics mascot, Vinicius, is available for purchase in the form of dolls that are made in China. The official badges and mascots are produced by the Chinese enterprise Huajiang Culture. The opening ceremony has not yet been held, but Olympic souvenirs bearing the label “Huajiang” have already appeared in the official stores of the Olympic Games.

    4. Sporting goods

During the Olympic Games, equipment produced by Chinese enterprises will help athletes to deliver their best performances. Volleyball nets, posts and umpire’s chairs produced by Jinling Sports will appear on Olympic volleyball courts. In addition, Botou ZhangKong Barbell Manufacturing Company in Hebei province is the only supplier of weight training equipment for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

    5. Security equipment

More than 200 security scanners provided by Nuctech Co., Ltd. will help keep the Rio 2016 Games safe. Nuctech is a Chinese security service supplier linked to Tsinghua University. After the Games, the scanners will be relocated to prisons throughout Rio where they will continue to ensure a safe and secure environment for the city’s residents.

    6. Communications system

Shenzhen Hytera (Hytera) company has provided about 1,200 sets of digital radio handsets for use during the Games.

    7. Air conditioning

Chinese air conditioner brand Gree has equipped a number of Olympic venues with its products. The equipped spaces include the main stadiums, hotels, Olympic Village, media village, airport and more.
