QINGDAO, July 22  -- Several electric multiple unit (EMU) trains made in China went into operation in Argentina's capital Buenos Aires on July 21.

CSR Qingdao Sifang, the developer and producer, announced that the first batch of six EMUs consisting of 54 carriages now link the downtown capital to satellite cities.

The trains have a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour and each carriage can accommodate 310 passengers.

They arrived in Argentina in February and have completed a five-month pilot run, said Ni Shengyi, deputy general manager of the company.

"The company is expected to deliver the remainder in September and next July," he said.

In early 2013, the company won a contract worth over one billion U.S. dollars to supply EMUs for Argentina, China's biggest EMU export deal.
